High Net Worth Investor and Sophisticated Investors
A “Certified High Net Worth Investor” is an individual with who earns at least £100,000 per year or have net assets (excluding your property, pension rights and so on) of at least £250,000.
A “Self–Certified Sophisticated Investor” under the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) regulations, is an individual who must self-certify that they have a sufficient level of knowledge and experience in financial matters to be able to assess the risks and make informed investment decisions. They are required to confirm that they meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Have been a member of a network or syndicate of business angels for at least six months before the date of the certificate.
- Have made more than one investment in an unlisted company in the past two years.
- Have worked in a professional capacity in the private equity sector or in the provision of finance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the past two years.
- Have been a director of a company with an annual turnover of at least £1 million in the past two years.
